# WhySoSlow

> A personal, offline co-driver for Kyiv — the speed limit in force next to your speed, and a calm warning before every automatic camera.

WhySoSlow is a **personal, offline driving companion for Kyiv**. It's a **follow-map, not a
navigator**: no routes and no turn-by-turn, just a big heads-up display with the **speed limit in
force right next to your speed**, and a timely warning **before each automatic speed camera**. Everything works with no signal, and it's yours to correct — fix any limit or drop your
own markers from behind the wheel.

  WhySoSlow is a personal project — **free, no subscriptions**. It covers Kyiv and the surrounding
  oblast today, with other regions available as downloadable map packs.

## The idea in one minute

    Put the phone in a car mount with the screen on, open WhySoSlow, and tap **Start**. The map
    follows you — there's nothing to type and nothing to tap while moving.

    Your speed sits next to the limit in force. It turns **amber** the moment you're over the posted
    limit and **red** once you cross Ukraine's **+20 km/h** fineable line — a single calm beep, not
    a siren.

  <Step title="Let the cameras warn you first">
    About **30 seconds** before each automatic camera you get a distinct alert — only in the
    direction it enforces, and at the camera's own limit.

    Spotted a bad limit or a missing camera? Correct it from the driver's seat. Your edits sync
    across your phones and survive map updates.
