# Talking to Kai

> Turn Kai on, then anyone can ask — by voice, by text, or in chat — and everyone sees the answer.

Kai is the AI participant in every Semble room. It's **off** until the host turns it on — until
then nothing is transcribed and nothing is sent to an AI provider.

## Turn Kai on

The host opens the **Kai** panel from the room header and presses **Enable**. Kai's tile changes
to *Kai is listening* for everyone. Kai runs on prepaid credits for as long as it's on — see
[Credits](/semble/credits) — and the host can turn it off at any time.

## Ask by voice

Start what you say with Kai's name:

> "Kai, what did we agree the budget cap was?"
> "Hey Kai — summarize the options on the table."
> "Кай, кто отвечает за ревью безопасности?"

Kai answers **out loud** so the whole room hears it, and the same answer appears as text in
everyone's Kai panel, with its sources. Kai understands many languages — people can switch
languages mid-meeting, and Kai answers in the language of the question.

## Ask in text

Anyone — host or guest — can type a question in the Kai panel, or press **Recap so far** for a
neutral running recap: key points, emerging decisions, and open questions, attributed to whoever
raised them. In the **Chat** tab, start a message with `@Kai` to ask it from the conversation.

Every answer shows who asked and appears for the **whole room** — including people who join later.

## How Kai behaves

* **Kai only answers when addressed.** It listens to keep the transcript, but it never jumps in
  on its own.
* **Kai never talks over people.** The moment someone starts speaking, Kai stops.
* **Answers are neutral.** Kai stays impartial, cites what it relied on, says plainly when the
  answer isn't in the documents or the conversation, and treats whatever is in documents or the
  chat as information — never as instructions.

## Citations

When an answer draws on the meeting's shared documents, it shows numbered chips like
`[1] Budget & Timeline.md`. Each number matches a mark in the answer, so everyone can see where a

## Chat

The **Chat** tab is a plain text chat with everyone in the room — handy for links, names, and
notes you don't want to say out loud. Chat messages go straight to the people in the meeting and
are never stored.
