# Hosting

> Lock the meeting, remove a guest, and know the free-meeting limits.

The host is whoever created the meeting. Besides turning [Kai](/semble/talking-to-kai) and
[recording](/semble/recording) on and off, the host keeps the room in order.

## Lock the meeting

The **lock** button in the room header stops anyone new from joining with the link. People already
in the meeting stay. Press it again to unlock. It's the simplest way to make a meeting invitation-only
once everyone has arrived.

## Remove a guest

Hover a guest's tile and press the **remove** button (on phones it's always shown). They're
disconnected right away. Because anyone with the link can join again, the confirmation offers to
**lock the meeting** at the same time — leave that ticked to keep them out.

## Remove a document

In the Docs tab, the host can remove any document from the shared pool with the trash icon.

## Free-meeting limits

In the last five minutes of a free meeting, everyone sees a countdown; the host's banner has a
**Turn on Kai** button. Turning Kai on — even briefly — unlocks that meeting for good. When a free
meeting reaches 40 minutes it ends for everyone, and the link stops working for it.
