# Streaks & momentum

> A forgiving streak, a non-breaking momentum score, and two ways to protect your progress.

Streaks are motivating but fragile — miss one day and the usual app resets you to zero. Proofday
keeps the motivation and removes the dread.

## The forgiving streak

Your **streak** counts consecutive days you closed (or that you marked as rest). It's there to
motivate, but it's built to bend, not snap.

## Momentum

Alongside the streak, Proofday shows a **momentum** score — a rolling measure of how consistently
you've closed your days recently.

Unlike a streak, momentum doesn't crash to zero over a single miss. It dips a little and recovers
as you keep showing up, so one off-day is a small dip on a curve rather than a catastrophe. It's
the honest picture of your consistency without the all-or-nothing anxiety.

## Two ways to stay whole

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Redeem a missed day" icon="rotate-left">
    Missed yesterday? Within a short grace window you can still close it. It's marked as
    backfilled — honesty matters — but it counts as a win and keeps your streak intact.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Rest days" icon="mug-hot">
    Pre-declare a planned day off. A rest day protects your streak instead of breaking it, because
    rest is part of the practice, not a failure of it.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Note>
  None of this is about gaming a number. It matches how consistency actually works: mostly showing
  up, occasionally not — and never letting one bad day become the reason you quit.
</Note>

Your streak and momentum are shown on the Today screen, and the **calendar** gives you the
at-a-glance view of every won, missed, and rest day.
