# How it works

> Watching, matching, and how items reach your timeline.

Lexiline turns a topic you care about into a standing request: *tell me when something relevant
appears.* Here's what happens between following a topic and seeing a match.

## Watching, so you don't have to

Once you follow a topic, Lexiline watches the web on your behalf. You never have to open the app
to "refresh" it — the watching happens on its own, in the background, whether or not you're
looking. That's the whole point: the app carries the habit of checking back so you don't have to
remember it.

## Reading for meaning, not just keywords

A plain keyword alert matches the letters and ignores the intent. Lexiline reads each candidate
for *meaning*, so following "a sequel to my favourite film" surfaces the announcement that
matters and skips the fan theories, reruns, and merch that merely share the words.

## One clean timeline

Matches arrive in a single **chronological timeline**, newest first. There's no hidden ranking,
no reordering, and no bottomless scroll — you see what's new since last time, reach the end, and
you're done. Each item links out to its source so you can read the full story where it was
published.

## Nothing until there's something

A brand-new topic can sit quietly for a while, and that's expected — Lexiline only shows you an
item when it genuinely matches. An empty topic isn't broken; it's waiting. The moment the world
has something to say, it appears.
