# Countdowns & reminders

> How Finity models a countdown — an anchor date plus an optional repeat rule — with reverse-fill rings, notifications, and a calendar view.

Every countdown in Finity is two simple things: an **anchor date** (the moment you care about) and
an optional **repeat rule**. That small model covers your whole life without fuss.

## Anchor date + repeat rule

* **Anchor date** — the target moment: a launch, a birthday, an anniversary, a deadline.
* **Repeat rule** — every N **days, weeks, months or years**, ending **never**, **on a date**, or
  **after a set number of times**. Leave it off for a one-time countdown.

A birthday is a yearly repeat; a visa renewal is a one-off; "water the plants" repeats every few
days and never ends.

## Reverse-fill rings

Each countdown is drawn as a ring that **drains as the date approaches**, so a glance tells you
what's close and what's far. Passed countdowns are kept rather than deleted, so recurring ones roll
forward to their next occurrence automatically.

## Reminders

* **Local notifications** on every plan, scheduled on your device.
* **Email reminders** sent from the server on **Pro**, for the things you can't miss even with the
  app closed.

## Calendar

The **calendar view** ties your countdowns together with life events and the photos you've pinned to
a day — a single screen for "what is this week about?".
